Arrival in Bratislava

Day 2:

Bratislava – Capital of Slovakia

  • half day walking tour of Bratislava – the younger sister of Vienna, once Hungarian coronation city with reasonable and therefore likeable built palaces, the summer resort of Austrian nobility, today a city with well restored old town, Danube river and attractive views from the castle terraces
  • in the afternoon visit of the medieval castle Devin, which dominates the confluence of the rivers Danube and Morava
  • overnight: Bratislava

Day 3:

Banská Štiavnica & Košice

  • drive to the hilly central Slovakia
  • Banská Štiavnica (UNESCO site) – historical „silver“ mining town with splendid Renaissance architecture, old mines and two castles
  • Arrival to Košice
  • Košice – multicultural and colorful town with a gothic masterpiece – Cathedral of St. Elisabeth (Slovakia’s biggest church). Well preserved historical centre of the town, palace architecture and a singing fountain.

Day 4:

Bardejov (UNESCO) & wooden churches of Eastern Slovakia

  • Bardejov (UNESCO) – the most beautiful medieval square in Slovakia. Renaissance houses and a gem of Renaissance architecture – the City Hall. Magnificent Gothic St. Egidius church with its rare collection of Gothic altars
  • Lukov & Hervartov (UNESCO) – Greek-Catholic and Roman-Catholic wooden churches in the villages around Bardejov
  • overnight: Košice

Day 5:

UNESCO monuments of Spiš region – Spiš castle & the town of Levoča

  • Spiš castle (UNESCO) – one of the largest castles in Central Europe with breathtaking scenery
  • Levoča (UNESCO) – well preserved medieval town, beautiful noblemen’s houses, a renaissance town hall, St. James church with the tallest wooden altar in the world
  • Kežmarok – the wooden protestant church (UNESCO) – the jewel of Slovak baroque architecture

Day 6:

High Tatras & Orava castle

  • The High Tatras – Štrbské Pleso – mountain resort located at the second largest mountain lake in the High Tatras
  • Orava castle – mighty castle on a high rock, a preferred photo motif, with countless stairs it puts the visitors to the test, but the view from the top is worth it
  • overnight: Banská Bystrica – „copper“ mining town with delightful historic centre

Day 7:

The castle of Bojnice, drive to Bratislava through picturesque countryside

  • Bojnice – the most romantic castle in Slovakia. The representative seat of the Palffy family is the most visited castle in Slovakia
